The International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention (DDI) is the world’s leading event dedicated to research on distraction and inattention in traffic. Attracting participants from over 20 countries, DDI brings together experts from academia, industry, and government to explore the latest findings, trends, and solutions in this scientific field.
DDI2026 will feature insightful keynote presentations, engaging plenary and parallel sessions, a poster exhibition, and expert panel discussions – all designed to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and drive forward research that makes a real-world impact. Beyond the sessions, the conference offers excellent networking opportunities, facilitating research dialogue between global experts with a shared mission: to better understand, prevent and mitigate risks associated with distraction and inattention, ultimately saving lives on the road.
DDI2026 will cover a wide range of topics related to theory, measurement, effects, crash risks, and prevention/mitigation strategies concerning distraction and inattention. While the primary focus is on drivers, the conference also welcomes research on other road users – including pedestrians, cyclists, and users of emerging transport modes such as electric scooters.
For a description of the general scope of the DDI conference and the focus topics for DDI2022, please see here;
The scope extends beyond theoretical research to include practical solutions such as:
- Injury prevention and mitigation strategies
- Education and awareness initiatives
- Road design and policy measures
- Stakeholder coordination to improve road safety outcomes
All conference abstracts will be peer-reviewed by at least two international experts on driver distraction and inattention, all of whom are members of the conference’s Scientific Committee. We co-operate with the high impact factor scientific journal Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, and the authors of the best abstracts and conference presentations will be invited to submit a full paper to a special issue of the journal. Accepted papers (after TRF’s review process) will be published in a regular TRF issue, then compiled in an online special issue.
DDI2026 builds on the success of previous conferences held in:
- Gothenburg, Sweden (2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2022)
- Sydney, Australia (2015)
- Paris, France (2017)
- Online (2021)
- Ann Arbor (2024)
Held biannually, the DDI conference series has grown into a crucial platform for advancing global road safety research.
DDI2026 is co-organised by:
